Ingredients in Nanoskin Technology Skin Regimen and Needling Protocol Serums: MATRIXYL™

It is very unlikely that you will ever find any negative reviews regarding Matrixyl for the simple reason for this is that it works and works very well. There are many different products out there that contain this popular ingredient and since the scientific studies have been published confirming its remarkable benefits any product containing either Matrixyl or Matrixyl 3000 have started flying off the shelves.

New research shows anti-wrinkle cream chemical MATRIXYL works.

University of Reading researchers have found that a chemical used in some anti-wrinkle creams can nearly double the amount of the protein collagen needed to give skin its elasticity.

Due to competition in the cosmetic industry, evidence of the effectiveness of cosmetics is hard to find. The research team measured the effectiveness of a peptide called Matrixyl on collagen, a protein which repairs skin tissue. They found that Matrixyl can almost double the amount of collagen¹ that the cells in our body produce, provided the concentration is high enough.

Professor Ian Hamley, from the University of Reading’s Department of Chemistry, said: “Studies like this are very important for the consumer as cosmetic companies rarely publish their work so rivals can’t copy their products. Our research, supported by a University studentship with some additional funding by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), shows that products with Matrixyl will have skin-care benefits.”

Collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals and constitutes a significant proportion of our connective tissue. It is thought that peptide-based treatments that stimulate the formation of collagen could be made to treat wounds and enhance stem cell research, as well as be used for cosmetic applications.

“Collagen-based materials have immense potential in tissue engineering,” continued Professor Hamley. “BBSRC has recently funded the team to investigate wound healing in battlefield applications, as part of a collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, part of the Ministry of Defence.”

Research partner Dr Che Connon, Reader in Tissue Engineering and Cell Therapy at the University of Reading, is using collagen based materials in the development of artificial tissues and stem cell transplantation.

In 2011 Professor Hamley received a prestigious Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award as part of a scheme to keep Britain’s top research scientists in the UK. His previous research has provided new insights into potential treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, a degenerative and incurable form of dementia that afflicts millions of people worldwide.

Collagen Stimulating Effect of Peptide Amphiphile C16-KTTKS on Human Fibroblasts was published (with page numbers) on the Molecular Pharmaceutics website on Monday 4 March.

Matrixyl® 3000 restores skin’s metabolism of youth. That is why Nanoskin includes a high % of this formula in it’s advance range.

REGU AGE™REGU®-AGE PF is a unique, high performing, paraben-free complex of specially purified natural rice and soy peptides with a bio technologically produced superoxide dismutase. REGU®-AGE PF protects and strengthens the delicate skin under the eyes while reducing under-eye dark circles and eye puffiness. Trylagen PCB™  (Non Paraben)TRYLAGEN® is a combination of active peptides and proteins that can fight the processes that affect the quantity and quality of collagen as we age. It acts on collagen via 3 main functions:A) Collagen boostingDuring aging, the synthesis of collagen gradually declines.

The active ingredients in TRYLAGEN® boost the synthesis of collagen types I, III and IV, helping to compensate for our decreased production as we age.B) Collagen organization. The process of fibrillogenesis results in the formation of collagen bundles that are responsible for the strength and resiliency of the skin. TRYLAGEN® controls collagen fibril dimensions by uniformising their diameter and spacing them regularly. This provides a better cohesion and stabilization of collagen fibres, and gives suppleness to the skin.C) Collagen protection after a certain age the degradation of collagen speeds up, due to an increase in MMP (matrix metalloproteinases) levels. Collagenases, a specific type of MMP, cleave fibrillar collagen into smaller fragments, which are then susceptible to further proteolysis. TRYLAGEN® inhibits the production of human MMP-2 and MMP-3, therefore avoiding excessive collagen damage in aged skin. Its anti-collagenase activity protects collagen from degradation.

In addition to enzymatic degradation, another process that damages collagen is glycation. Glycation is a reaction between proteins and sugars in our skin. Sugars act as a kind of glue that sticks proteins together. When glycation affects collagen fibres, they lose their flexibility and elasticity.

TRYLAGEN® has also proved to inhibit glycation, avoiding the formation of AGEs (Advanced Glycation End products), protecting skin from the loss of elasticity.TRYLAGEN® acts at three different stages in the life of collagen: synthesis, formation and degradation. The benefits of TRYLAGEN® have also been demonstrated in vivo. A cream containing TRYLAGEN® proved to reduce significantly the depth of wrinkles around the eyes, thanks to the overall improvement in both the quantity and quality of skin collagen. COSMETIC BENEFITS    Selectively boosts the synthesis of Collagen I, III and IV.    Controls uniformity of fibril diameter and the regular spacing of collagen fibrils when the fibrils are formed, ensuring the correct organisation of the collagen network.    Protects collagen from degradation and glycation characteristic of aged skin.   TRYLAGEN® helps maintain our collagen quantity and quality, and this is macroscopically translated into a significant anti-wrinkle effect.

BIOPEPTIDE CL™Biopeptide CL™ is a messenger peptide for collagen renewal that features “retinoic acid-like” activity without irritancy. It stimulates collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, reinforces the epidermis and diminishes wrinkles. This product is suggested for use in anti-wrinkle skin care and make-up products. In an age where there seems to be new discoveries almost every week, it is no surprise to find biotechnology that bordered on science fiction a number of years ago becoming reality and part of our daily lives. Skincare ingredients and formulations are a prime example of this, and there are some amazing hi-tech ingredients used in modern formulations that ten years ago would have been considered pure science. Biopetides are one of the latest ingredients finding their way into skin care formulations. They have a great deal to offer in the areas of stimulating natural biological processes that help reverse the ageing process of the skin. What are Bio peptides?Bio peptides are smaller peptides derived from various proteins. They supply the second stage of necessary biological materials in the form of critical macromolecules, protein precursors, peptides and associated cofactors necessary for the building and maintenance of the larger families of complex proteins, prostaglandins and hormones. This means that bio peptides are able to stimulate physiological processes to occur inside the structures of the skin itself. They work by penetrating deep into the skin and stimulating the cells to function in a more normal manner, correcting imbalances that are often responsible for problem skin. They can help strengthen the natural defences of the skin and prevent the appearance of visible signs of skin ageing. There are a number of patented Biopeptides in skin care formulations, with Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (also known as Palmitoyl Pentapeptide and Biopeptide-CL) being the most common at the time of writing. Palmitoyl Oligopeptide is a synthetic protein, made up of a fragment of collagen and palmitic acid. The palmitic acid is used to make collagen fragment more lipophillic and make it more compatible with the human skin to allow penetration. One could look at Palmitoyl Oligopeptide as a man-made precursor to collagen I. It is a relatively small molecule (five amino acids linked together and attached to a fatty acid) structurally related to the precursor of collagen type I (a.k.a. pro collagen type I). Researchers found that when added to the culture of fibroblasts (the key skin cells), Palmitoyl Oligopeptide stimulated the synthesis of the key constituents of the skin matrix: collagen, elastin and glucosamnoglycans. Advocates of Palmitoyl Oligopeptide claim that is at least as effective against wrinkles as retinol, but does not cause skin irritation, which is a common side effect of retinoids. Solutions to address ageing factors. The research behind Palmitoyl Oligopeptide was begun to find specific solutions to address ageing factors in the skin, particularly the thinning of the sinusoidal layer between the dermis and the epidermis. The goal was to find a short peptide that would stimulate fibroblasts in the skin to produce key components of the extra-cellular matrix such as collagen and hyaluronic acid.

During in vitro clinical trials, claims of efficiency included the Increase of collagen production by the fibroblasts by as much as 350%, and Increases of hyaluronic acid production by the fibroblasts by as much as 146%. Further testing in viro of a cream with a 3% concentration over a six-month period showed impressive results, although significant results were seen in two months.

Results of the six-month period included:

These results show that Palmitoyl Oligopeptide had a dramatic effect on reducing the quantity and depth of wrinkles and also improved surface smoothness.  The studies behind the biopeptide give a clear description of the mechanism for how this is accomplished and also indicate that it is stimulating natural biological processes to reverse the ageing process of the skin. Elastin and collagen are the substances most responsible for the elasticity of the skin and take on combined actions to achieve this. If either of these substances decreases, wrinkles develop, and so protection of one and stimulation of the other is, therefore, the best support that one can give skin.Bio peptides are shown to stimulate the fibroblasts that are responsible for the health of elastin and collagen, and are consequently a very exciting ingredient that will undoubtedly become more and more popular as their results become known to those who still cling to old fashioned products.
Dehydroacetic acidis an organic compound. The compound is classified as a pyrone derivative and is used mostly as a fungicide and bactericide.
Dimethicone™Prevents water loss, protects your skin, making it an essential ingredient of a dry skin moisturizer.Dimethicones are non-toxic, hypoallergenic unmodified silicones, which form a protective layer on the skin that helps retain natural moisture thus preventing transdermal water loss (keeps the moisture in!). This layer must be renewed as the skin sloughs off. Dimethicones stay on or near the surface of the skin without getting below it.Dimethicone molecules are too big to penetrate past the outer layer of dead skin cells and cannot pass into the deeper layers of living skin cells. They naturally are attracted to the outer most layers of skin. They also dislike both the water and proteins inside cells. They evaporate quickly after helping to carry oils into the top layer of epidermis from where oils may be absorbed by the skin.Nanoskin Technology uses a proprietary blend, consisting of several different dimethicones, that offer a very high degree of protection to the skin.
Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate CrosspolymerA non-toxic thickening agent that enhances the pleasing feel of the lotion. Helps it glide on smoothly, making it a really great dry skin cream.Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a non-toxic thickener suitable for use in formulations, which demand superior appearance, exceptional clarity, smooth flow (shear-thinning) and suspending or stabilizing properties. It delivers effective performance across a broad pH range, with greatest viscosity efficiency at pH 5.0. This, along with broad compatibility with typically used cosmetic ingredients, makes the polymer ideal for use in hair and skin care applications. The polymer imparts a light, cushiony feel in applications, helping to promote an enhanced tactile experience in use.
De ionized water (Aqua)(purified water/demineralized water)Pure and extremely soluble, leaving much less drying residue than water used in other products.De ionized water is water that lacks ions, such as cations (positive charged ions) from sodium, calcium, iron, copper and anions (negatively charged ions) such as chloride and bromide. This means it has been purified from most ions. This type of water is produced using an ion exchange process.De ionized water is similar to distilled water, in that it is useful for where the presence of impurities may be undesirable. The lack of ions causes the water’s resistivity (resistivity to an electrical flow) to increase. Ultra-pure deionized water can have a theoretical maximum resistivity up to 1000 times greater than common tap water. This means that pure deionized water is theoretically up to 1000 times more soluble than common tap water – that is why there is little or no residue left after applying Nanoskin Technology lotions.
PhytoCellTech Malus Domestica™This active ingredient won the prize in European Innovation “Best Active Ingredient” in 2008. It is a revolutionary technology designed to protect human skin stem cells with the help of stem cells from a rare Swiss apple. The clinical trials conducted by the company who discovered this ingredient showed that 100% of the participants saw a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles after using a solution containing 2% PhytoCellTech Malus Domestica.PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica is an award-winning patented liposomal preparation, so containing tiny bubbles made out of the same material as cell membranes, based on the stem cells of a rare Swiss apple called Uttwiler Spätlauber that derives from a seedling planted in the middle of the18th century. Uttwiler Spätlauber is an endangered apple variety that is well-known for its ability to be stored for long periods without shrivelling and thus its longevity potential.

The apples are rich in phytonutrients, proteins and long-living cells. A novel technology has now been developed enabling the cultivation of rare and endangered species like Uttwiler Spätlauber. Thanks to this technology, plant stem cells can be obtained and incorporated into skin care products to enhance the longevity of skin cells. Not only does it protect the skin’s own stem cells but has been shown to have excellent age-delaying and anti-wrinkle properties, and is currently one of the most pioneering and exciting ingredients in skin care.”Adult skin heals via an inflammatory response, involving macrophages and type 1 collagen. On the other hand, fetal skin, when it is healing, relies heavily on the skin’s stem cells and fibroblasts”. One of the most important differences between adult and fetal skin is the fact that fetal skin heals without scarring. A wrinkle is a small wound, For this reason, Petrikovsky has been looking at ways we can activate the adult stem cells in the skin to perform in similar ways to those in fetal skin.

One substance he has found that can upregulate the stem cell activity of adult skin is Peptide 199, an amino acid chain derived from the Wharton Jelly, a gelatinous substance found in the umbilical cord. This upregulation ensures the fibroblast dominance over the inflammatory process during skin repair, mimicking the process that occurs in fetal skin, healing without a scar or wrinkle.5Emerge Labs new Swiss Apple Stem Cell Serum allows plant stem cells to preserve and protect skin stem cells. PhytoCellTech® – a novel plant cell culture technology has been invented to cultivate dedifferentiated callus cells from a rare Swiss apple. These apple stem cells are rich in epigenetic factors and metabolites, assuring the longevity of skin cells. The Skin Stem Cell Serum protects longevity and combats chronological ageing while delaying senescence of skin cells, preserving the youthful look and vitality of one’s skin.
Melanostatin™Inhibits melanin synthesis, showing a visi-ble reduction in melanin quantity of 14% after just 2 weeks, and a 22% reduction after 8 weeks.  Skin lightening and dark spot correction with Melostatin has a very successful track record.
Niacinamide Helps with cell and lipid regeneration. Niaci-namide also appears to have some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Silicone oils Provide improved moisturization and pre-serves the skin’s natural barrier.

RESVERATROL•Anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce premature ageing in the skin that can be caused by inflammation.•Powerful antioxidant and free-radical fighter.•Help maintain collagen and moisture in the skin.

In one study published by the National Institutes of Health in 2005, resveratrol was applied to the skin of laboratory animals, who were then subjected to high ultraviolet radiation. Researchers found the compound protected the animals.

“It was a very good sunblock,” Maroon explained. “It might be the ultimate sunblock for both plants in animals. In animals, it was shown to help prevent the development of skin cancer.”

Heather Hausenblas, an associate professor at the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida in Gainseville, Fla., said to CBSNews.com that a study published in the Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology in Oct. 2012. showed that people who took resveratrol orally for more than 60 days had improvements in their skin. Their skin was more moist, less rough, had better elasticity, and participants’ age spots had decreased.

Another study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology in 2011 found that people who used a gel containing resveratrol on their skin for 30 days reduced acne by about 54 percent, according to a Global Acne Grading System (GAGS).

Hausenblaus emphasized the important thing to note about the studies is that the subjects took resveratrol for an extended period of time, not just did a one-time treatment. She likened it to taking prescription medication once over two weeks instead of every day: “You aren’t going to see an effect,” she said. “They were taking this for 60 days — not just an hour in an expensive red wine bath…

Hyaluronic Acid•Hyaluronic acid is considered equally important, if not more important, than Collagen. •Retains over a 1000 times its weight in water within the cells of the skin. Making it an excellent moisturizer.•Ability to remove waste matter from cells even where there is little blood circulation.L-Arginine •Dilate blood vessels to increase overall blood circulation.•Significant increase in collagen synthesis, or production. Rice Bran Extract•Combination of vitamin B, E and fatty acids, which go deep into the skin to improve its ability to hold onto hydration. •Increase elasticity while maintaining hydration, which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.Panax Ginseng Extract•Can protect cells from cell death caused by strong UVB radiation.•Study results suggest that panax ginseng root extract promotes type I collagen production. Cucumber Fruit Extract•Soften and deeply hydrate the skin.
